Lincoln Memorial

“In this temple, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever.”

Modeled after the Greek temples, Henry Bacon designed the Lincoln memorial. 38 Doric columns line the outside of the monument, these represent the 36 states in the union at the time of Lincoln's death, and two addition columns at the entrance. Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address and his Gettysburg Address are in scripted into the sides of the monument, and in the center a large statue of Lincoln sitting, carved by the Piccirelli brothers. The statue is 19 feet high and weighs 175 tons. The monument was first proposed in 1867 right after Lincoln’s death, but was not built until 1910.

Mount Rushmore

Picture
Mount Rushmore represents American democracy. It is a symbol of the greatness of the American nation because it demonstrates the greatness of our leaders. Built between 1927 and 194 this monument was constructed.  This is located in South Dakota and each head is as tall as a 60-story building.

 "
Hence, let us place there, carved high, as close to heaven as we can, the works of our leaders, their faces, to show posterity what manner of men they were. Then breathe a prayer that these records will endure until the wind and the rain alone shall wear them away"
-John Gutzon Borglum

Ground Zero

Three thousand people died in the terrible events of 9-11 and 1993. The memorial will remember and honor these people as well as the fireman and first responders at the scene. Waterfalls will cascade down the sides of the monument and it will symbolize a memorial to that horrible day. The monument is predicted to be finished within this year.
