The President of the United States?

Picture
George Bush, our nations president at the time was entering an elementary school while our country was under attack. His security advisor warned him of the attacks, but yet our President entered the school building. Finally at 9:55 he was finally persuaded to go. When he got back to DC at 8:30 PM him and his advisers made immediate responses at home to decide what to do with this crisis. Bush then sends troops into battle in Afganistan and later Iraq. But, still Bin Ladin and Zawahiri were still believed to be at large.
Vice President Cheney was at a meeting at the White House when he found out about the attacks.  Different commissions made different conclusions to what was going on.

Backtrack- before 9-11 occured

In 1998 the Saudi exile Osama Bin Ladin and a fugitive Egyptian and arrange for an Arabic newspaper in London to publish a legal pronunciation in Islam. Bin Ladin then calls for the murder of any America on the earth. He was also recorded saying that it is more important to kill American’s then anyone else. Osama Bin Ladin had a huge fortune of his families and worked himself up until he was at a high peak and at a trusted position in the government for most. At this time the United States helped the Muslims against the Soviets in Afghanistan. In 1988 the Afghan jihad was victorious and the soviets were out of the country. Bin Ladin had an idea that he would be the head of the International Jihad confederation, which was basically a giant army of terrorism.  This international terrorist group even expanded into the United States as well as other countries around the world. Al Queada or Al Khifa was one of the most numerous branches. This group trained from 10,000 to 20,000 terrorists from 1996 to 9-11.
The years around 9-11 there were many “miscommunications” between the FBI and the FAA. This caused their to be a very small amount of terrorist suspects while the government had watch lists of thousands. The resulting security was flawed and obviously failed to stop any plane on 9-11. The Intelligence community was also very haphazard and not together, containing of different agencies, but not one united one. Congress and the states of America were inadequate and didn’t treat terrorism in the years to come before 9-11, although as you will learn they did attempt to stop it. America realized in 1996 the Bin Ladin’s group wasn’t only a financier but he was planning operations against US interests worldwide as well as attempting to obtain nuclear material.America also discussed the potential of finding Bin Ladin, but they resisted because they were too afraid of having more attacks and threats from Arab peoples and nations. After all Bin Ladin was their leader.

The "Plane" Mission

Picture
The planning of 9-11  started way back in 1993. New York was chosen as the prime target for this operation. Also, the beginning plan apparently consisted of ten planes, which would target both coasts. KSM was behind this initial plan when he joined AL Qaeda in 1998 or 1999. The planes operation went into full effect when he joined. Hijackers were trained in all different types of attacks. They looked at al the security and they arrived in Los Angels in January of 2000 (the first two Hazmi and Mihdhar). Mohamed Atta, Ramzi Binalshibh, Marwan AL Shehhi, and Ziad Jarrah played key roles in the planning of 9-11. The Hamburg group shared an anti US feeling but also could speak English and there life was very radical. These four people “disguised” themselves as Americans and learned to fly plane’s, which cost an immense amount of money for the Al Queda group.
In 1999 Bill Clinton, the president at this time choose not to publize about their mission to find Bin Ladin as to not increase the publicity. A phone call was intercepted from Abu Zubaydah explaining that the time for training is over. In Jordan the police found drums of Acids, detonators, and forged Saudi passports, and a CD- Rom of a terrorist manual. Cole attack happened and Presidents were changed. Bush was advised to spend time on terrorism and so was his national security administer.
Hazmi and Khalid Al Mindhar who were two terrorists on flight 77 arrived in LA. They took English classes and were taught to fly planes and disguise themselves. In Summer of 2000 the Hamburg group went into the the US to complete more flight training. Ziad Jarrah arrived in Newark on June 27th. He enrolled himself into the accelerated pilot program. At this point the Al Queada group was fighting about who was going to take control during the flight training. Binal Shibh was unable to acquire a US visa. Atta took an alleged trip to Prague at this time, while he was really in the US.
In Autumn of 2000 Al Queada began to select different hijackers. They came from a variety of different backgrounds, but most of the were Saudis because it was argued that Al Queada wanted to send a message to the government of Saudi Arabia about it’s relationships with the US. These teams were now called “Suicide operatives” because in the end they crashed their planes, ending their own lives as well as the lives of many others. The qualities that these men must have are to be able to give up your own life, have a clean background, and patience.
Then, in April of 2001 they arrived in the US, in Miami, Orlando, DC, and NY. There were four different pilots at this time; Atta, Shehhi, Hanjour, and Jarrah and they planned to crash into the World Trade Center, the Capital, The Pentagon, and the White House. The groups began to send out codes to figure out the actually date of attack. Then on September 9th, there was an assassination of the leader of the northern alliance, Ahmed Shah Massoud. Although America had been receiving threats and they were suspicious to something happening, they were not  positive what was going on and unsuccessfully tried to stop it.
